In the summer of 2019 I was introduced, by the amazing Angela Wheeler, to the fantastic world of POUND. What on earth is POUND you might ask?
POUND is a full on rockout, workout. It involves loud music with a heavy beat and a pair of lightly weighted, custom designed drumsticks. It’s exciting, it’s totally engaging, it’s energising and it is enormous fun! It is full on cardio, High Intensity Interval Training, which involves hundreds of squats and lunges in each and every class. And the greatest beauty of POUND is that anybody can do it, regardless of fitness or flexibility. It will increase both!
I love it! I was totally hooked from the very first session I attended and by the autumn of 2019, I’d decided I wanted to make POUND a part of my life, to such an extent, that I went away for a weekend and trained to become a POUND Instructor.
It was with some intrepidation that I began to take my first taster classes just before Christmas 2019, in readiness to launch fully in 2020. Of course we all know what happened in the spring 2020, we went into lockdown. I’d only just got my classes up and running when it all came to a halt.
What to do? Well, like so many people, I quickly learned how to use Zoom and I’ve been rocking out and leading a group from my dining room, twice a week ever since!
I have a fantastic group of friends people of all ages and levels of fitness, who tune in from their own homes, and rockout to their own ability, burning off a huge number of calories, laughing together and enjoying the experience as much as I do.
I can’t wait to get everybody together again in person, to belt out the music and to hear those sticks banging in unison, as we rock it out. But in the meantime, thank goodness for Zoom!
